Trusted College Admission Counseling
Trusted College Admission Counseling Choose a few and jot down examples of how each has helped you. Think of things that other people often say about you. When I undertook the task ofLes MiserablesI thought that I had prepared myself. I had already read two different unabridged versions and done some research. I know it took some people years to finish, but I was dedicated. It wasnât until I realized that the main character was first mentioned nearly eight pages in that my traditional reading style wasnât going to work. I slowed downâ"It wasnât like I was racing anyoneâ"and tried to hear every characters voice, hear the nuances of the words, and imagine how it would sound aloud. The book took me a full two weeks to finish, the longest it has ever taken me to finish a book in my life. And this experience opened up a whole new side of reading for me. Discussion, for me, is a natural part of the reading process. The written word isnât meant to be a solitary thing; itâs meant to be shared. For a long time, I bombarded my family with a constant but ever changing stream of chatter on my book of choice. I appreciate nonfiction more than I did as a child. Ever since I took my first philosophy course, when I am seen with a book in my hands it is a philosophical work. Write about whether or not you agree with their assessments and how they make you feel. Include school activities; awards, honors, and offices held; community services; jobs; and travel. Note your strongest impressions and how they affected you. If you loved the Grand Canyon, for example, write down three specific reasons why, aside from the grandeur and beauty that everyone loves. Describe an accomplishment that you had to struggle to achieve. Include what it was, how you tackled it, and how it changed you. Describe and evaluate one experience that significantly influenced your academic interests. The experience might be a high school course, a job, a relationship, or an extracurricular activity. Be sure to explain how this experience led to your setting the goals you now have for yourself, and why you think the academic program for which you are applying will help you to reach those goals. There are hundreds of possible topics that you can be asked to write an essay on. No force on earth could keep me from books, and I hope that my breakthrough withLes Miserablesis just one of many. I want to spend the rest of my life becoming a better reader, and just maybe, becoming a better person because of it. This is a perfectly acceptable way to read books for fun, but it is not way to enjoy a truly great novel. Submit your essay via our application portal (after you've applied). If you choose to apply via Common App, we will accept the Common App essay for all programs listed above -- with the exception of Physician Assistant Studies. Although they're phrased differently from college to college, certain essay question types appear routinely. There are so many in my room I think theyâve started breeding. Iâll move a chair or look under my bed and a pile of books will have mysteriously appeared. Then, in eighth grade I was introduced to annotations. At first I thought they were tedious and annoying, but given time, I grew to appreciate the exercise. Now, instead of tiring our ears, I work away pencils, marking when I find something powerful, noting my thoughts in the margins of the pages. Then, when Iâve finished, I go back and read my own insights. It would be all too easy to let my constant busyness and the distractions of daily life keep me from trying to understand the world and my place in it, but I wonât let that happen. In my opinion, Ludwig Wittgenstein beats William Shakespeare any day. Sometimes the difficulty makes reading the book more rewarding. There is nothing more satisfying than finally understanding a passage I couldnât understand before. I loved tracing out the shapes and letters, turning the pages, pretending Icouldread. The only thing I didnât like about books was when people would read them out loud . I will forever be aware of myself and others, and I hope to never act on an unconscious bias. I know that Descartes was thinking thateverythingtold to him by his senses might be wrong, but I think his revelation applies more usefully to behaviors and biases we learn from a young age as well. However, my reading material has changed since elementary school.

In 2015 the National Association for College Admission Counseling released their State of College Admission Report. The result of their survey revealed that colleges ranked the application essay as the 5th most-important factor in the admission process. The only items ranking higher in importance were grades, GPA, curriculum and test scores. There will be many outstanding students with similar scores and gradesâ"too many to admit. Your essay helps us learn what makes you unique from other equally talented students. The essay should not be the most dreaded part of the application process for any university. The topic about which you are writing will provide some texture for me to relay to the Admission Committee, but the topic you have chosen to share with me in your essay is not the basis of an admission decision. I discern your fit based precisely on your ability to tell me about that experience in a clear and meaningful way. To do so takes reflectionâ"something any student can doâ"and a firm grasp of the craft of writing. College Application Essay Examples Admission Essay Topics
College Application Essay Examples Admission Essay Topics Sometimes the difficulty makes reading the book more rewarding. There is nothing more satisfying than finally understanding a passage I couldnât understand before. That moment of clarity makes the reading worth it. I loved tracing out the shapes and letters, turning the pages, pretending Icouldread. The knowledge that this may be in my future invigorates me. There is not one book on its own that calls to me, but knowing they are on my horizon fills me with anticipation. I can see me, a year older, sitting inside, curled up around a book and blanket. When my mom handed me Cosmicomicsin New York and said that I might like it, I was pretty skeptical. I am reluctant to fall in love with book someone recommends. But once I started it, I realized that I couldnât help falling for it. The only thing I didnât like about books was when people would read them out loud . When I finally learned to read, my love of books only increased. Ever since I took my first philosophy course, when I am seen with a book in my hands it is a philosophical work. In my opinion, Ludwig Wittgenstein beats William Shakespeare any day. This is my favorite quotation from my favorite book, The Underdogs by Mariano Azuela. I read this book for the first time in eighth grade while exploring the causes and consequences of the Mexican revolution. I am not simply interested in St. Johnâs; I am mesmerized by it. The thought of reading forty books in class over the school year excites me. The image of being surrounded by people similar to me thrills me. They talked about what the quickest way to memorize is and what is going to be in the test to memorize. Consequently, my interest and passion in other things only brought me loneliness in learning. For example, the piece ât zeroâ is one of my favorites. He refers to this moment as ât zero,â where t is time, and the moment he is experiencing is point zero. Although staying at t zero is appealing, upon the end of the story the hunter must inevitably move through time into the next second where his fate will be decided. Each one starts with a quote, which Calvino uses to explain and explore complex scientific theories. For example, he takes the reader through the creation of the universe, mitosis and meiosis, theories about space and time, dinosaurs, the moon, and many more. The complex tapestries he weaves are hauntingly beautiful, sharing only a common narrator, the ageless Qfwfq, who relays each story as though having witnessed it. In elementary school I could always be found with a book in my hand. I read books about pioneers, astronauts, ordinary kids doing extraordinary things. I wasnât quite able to read the original, so I was forced to resort to the âNo fear Shakespeareâ version. Lack of love causes loneliness, and I think the reason I have been lonely in pursuit of learning is because of a lack of love from the people who love what âI loveâ. What I considered important was different from what my school considered important as all their interest goes into exams. This short story is about a hunter, Qfwfq, who has just fired an arrow at a lion. The lion leaps at the hunter, and in that second the hunter canât tell if the arrow will miss or not. He has a 50/50 chance of killing the lion or being killed by the lion. The hunter then considers the possibility of remaining frozen in time in this moment of uncertainty forever, where every possible outcome could still happen, but hasnât happened yet. The hunter spends the rest of the story thinking through all the possible ramifications that come with choosing to exist only within a single second.

College Essay Examples
College Essay Examples Last summer, Emily visited my new home of five years, San Francisco, for the first time. We still laughed until our faces turned tomato red. We still screamed our favorite Taylor Swift songs as if there was no tomorrow. Nothing could get in between the love we had for each other, even our vehemently opposing opinions. I grew up scaling the tallest trees I could find, desiring the highest vantage point. For six hours a day, three times a week, Ivana is surrounded by IV stands, empty walls, and busy nurses that quietly yet constantly remind her of her breast cancer. Her face is pale and tired, yet kind--not unlike my grandmotherâs. I need only to smile and say hello to see her brighten up as life returns to her face. Upon our first meeting, she opened up about her two sons, her hometown, and her knitting group--no mention of her disease. Without even standing up, the three of usâ"Ivana, me, and my grandmother--had taken a walk together. As I studied Chinese at my school, I marveled how if just one stroke was missing from a character, the meaning is lost. I loved how long words were formed by combining simpler characters, so HuÇ' (ç«) meaning fire and ShÄn (å±±) meaning mountain can be joined to create HuÇ'shÄn (ç«å±±), which means volcano. I want to make laws that improve my country; all people should have a shot at the American dream. I am passionate about protecting the environment; reducing our effect on global-warming is of the utmost importance to me. I want to help those in need; people still donât have access to clean water and I want to use my privilege to help change that. The duality of the periodic tableâ"the cold, hard numbers mixed with the reassuring, steadfast patternsâ"has manifested itself in every aspect of my life. The world of coding presented itself to me as a way to bring the patterns I loved into the world in a way I could see them. âThese people are just confused,â Emily whispered to me as she stared out the car window at the gay couples walking down the rainbow streets of the Castro. I was utterly offended by her statement, but I replied calmly, âLet people be who they are.â Emily and I grew up in Texas together as inseparable friends. For twelve years that was our beautiful home, and we enjoyed every moment together. I strive to become fluent in Spanish; traveling the world is a dream of mine. Recently, I have discovered that I really like to code; Iâm sure in the coming years I will explore things I didnât know I was interested in. To a casual onlooker, this question may appear inconsequential in its hypothetical nature, but as they say; you are what you eat. My inclination towards the varied is not contained to my food habitsâ"it is a recurring theme throughout my life. Volunteering at a cancer treatment center has helped me discover my path. When I see patients trapped in not only the hospital but also a moment in time by their diseases, I talk to them. Growing up in the uniformly flat state of Florida, I was limited in my upward journey. Luckily, I rekindled my love for climbing in high school, and now cannot imagine life without it. My passion for climbing is fueled by the adrenaline that pumps through my veins. I love to play viola; I get a rush communicating without-words to my quartet members in order to convey a musical message. I am at my happiest reading a good book; their complex stories captivate me and I aspire to write a novel of my own. I will never stop traveling, so attaining fluency in foreign languages will only benefit me. In the future, I hope to use these skills as the foundation of my work, whether it is in international business, foreign diplomacy, or translation. Then, in high school, I developed an enthusiasm for Chinese. I learned about the different mechanisms and cells that our bodies use in order to fight off pathogens. My desire to major in biology in college has been stimulated by my fascination with the human body, its processes, and the desire to find a way to help people with allergies. I hope that one day I can find a way to stop allergic reactions or at least lessen the symptoms, so that children and adults donât have to feel the same fear and bitterness that I felt. I want to study foreign language and linguistics in college because, in short, it is something that I know I will use and develop for the rest of my life. I love spending hours at a time practicing the characters and I can feel the beauty and rhythm as I form them. I am on Oxford Academyâs Speech and Debate Team, in both the Parliamentary Debate division and the Lincoln-Douglass debate division. I write screenplays, short stories, and opinionated blogs and am a regular contributor to my school literary magazine, The Gluestick. I have accumulated over 300 community service hours that includes work at homeless shelters, libraries, and special education youth camps. I have been evaluated by the College Board and have placed within the top percentile.

College Admissions Essay
College Admissions Essay Proponents of the five paragraph essay say that the body text should consist of three paragraphs, but in reality, itâs fine to write more or fewer paragraphs in this section. There is no firm rule that says an essay needs to have a set number of paragraphs, but an essay must be a minimum of three paragraphs. There are a lot of people who say an essay should be five paragraphs, but itâs an extremely limiting rule, and unless youâve been instructed to write a five paragraph essay, thereâs no reason to stick to it. This master template can be used for short argumentative essays, long argumentative essays, complicated argumentative essays, and straightforward ones. It has additional sections to add more information, such as an extended background or an approach/methods section. The essay is supposed to reveal information that you havenât had a chance to discuss elsewhere in the application. Itâs meant to be a deeper dive into who you are beyond the numbers and accolades. As we mentioned earlier, you donât know who is reading your essay or how they feel about these subjects. Itâs best not to offend them or make them feel uncomfortable. It really is up to the person though, I have a buddy who writes considerably less than I do, but is able to get his point across. What youâre taught is often a general rule to shoot for, not a rule set in concrete. Your teacher felt that 7 paragraphs was a good number for the essays you wrote for her, but it doesnât always have to be that way. My teachers always taught by eight paragraph essays, but five-paragraph essays normally lie precedent to the more advanced or larger essays. the general rule is that 3 paragraphs are minimum for an essay. Meet all your essay deadlines with the help of our expert writers. As we said, writing is hard, and even professional writers like myself have trouble doing it. Here are a few useful tips that I follow in order to get the most of myself. Some key requirements for writing a good essay are ensuring a logical flow of content and smooth transitions but also using compelling evidence taken from trustworthy sources. A lot depends on how captivating/ original your information is, so focusing on content quality is crucial. Make sure that you are confident in your essay and accept feedback, but donât allow others to change your essay in any way that will cause it to lose its original message. CollegeXpress has everything you need to simplify your college search, get connected to schools, and find your perfect fit. Rachel, a student at James Madison University, recalls her Common Application essay with pride, because she was true to herself in everything she wrote. Narrative essays are often the closest thing to pieces of journalism. If you master the narrative essay, then you are likely well on your way to being a successful journalist. i referred this all things about how to attend interview for job purpose this is very useful to all the post graduate as well as under graduate students and also me. I am currently studying Finance and Economics at Hong Kong University. With careful advance planning, youâll be able to work out more or less how many paragraphs you need to complete your essay. Ultimately, your essay will be evaluated on the information you present, not on the number of paragraphs in the essay. Early in your academic life, teachers and lecturers may give you both a structure for your essay and a guideline on how long each part of the essay should be. After all, if the teacher is allocating 80 marks for content in total and you can see 50% of the mark relates to a certain part of the essay, then 50% of your essayâs words should be devoted to that section. Sometimes, applicants write about obstacles theyâve overcome or illicit/illegal topics including arrest, sexual experiences, drugs, and alcohol. In a few cases, these topics have been addressed effectively. But for the most part, itâs better to avoid subjects that could reflect poorly on your judgment and morals. After all, you donât want colleges to think youâre someone theyâd rather not have on campus. So, no matter how short your essay is, you should still need 3 paragraphs. If you are really for some reason writing a 100 word essay, then you should have one short sentence for both your introduction and conclusion. Paragraphs structure information into sub-topics, and they make your work easier to read and understand thanks to the structure they provide. Assuming five psychological effects have been identified, you can assume youâll need to write five paragraphs if you are going to write a relatively in-depth essay. For example, if you are writing an essay on childhood development and exposure to technology, you will want to look into the physical, psychological and cognitive developmental effects of tech on kids. When you research this topic, you will find that there are contrasting points of view and researchers have identified several physical, developmental, and psychological effects of technology use in children. In its simplest form, an essay can consist of three paragraphs with one paragraph being devoted to each section. EduBirdie uses top quality writers with years of higher-level writing experience on a variety of subjects. On average for a five-paragraph essay, I write around 1, words. For an eight paragraph essay, I write around 2,000-2,600 words on the document. Keep in mind your quotes too, you should have one quote per paragraph or two .
